Alright guys, this is the first time i’ve done this…. go easy on me.

Materials from left to right: foundation wedges, OPI base coat, Essie candy mint apple, Castledew satin mint, Revlon cloud, Australis peek-a-boo, Scandal disco silver, Sally Handsen mega shine top coat, dotting tool, nail bling i picked up in japan, cotton tips, nail polish remover.

OK im fussy and changed my mind about the colours because i didn’t want nails too similar to my previous ones. The new polishes are: Revlon pink lingerie, L.A. Girls love notes, see above for other polishes.

Clean and shape nails

One layer of OPI base coat

Using a throw away surface as a palette, blob out a bit of the first colour in the gradient. Fold over the thinner end of the foundation wedge and dab it into the polish.

LIGHTLY pat on the first layer of polish at the base of each nail (YES this is messy but you clean it up later). Depending on how dark you want it you can go over this with more of the same colour polish.

Using another folded section of the foundation wedge and the same method as above, begin to pat on a new layer of colour a little higher up the nail than the previous colour.

Keep building the colour up until it looks relatively smooth/even. (I haven’t used any new colours here, i’ve just gone back over with the lighter pink another 2 times)

Same method as above. New section of foundation sponge. Patting on the new colour LIGHTLY at first just a little higher than the previous colour.

(No new colours here. I’m just going back over with the satin mint a few more times and building it up.)

You do not need loads of polish on the sponge. The point is to build it up slowly and apply it GENTLY.

Use a new section of ‘palette’ for each colour!

Apply second last colour all the way to the END of the nail, this is because the last colour you use wont cover much of the nail.

Pat the last (usually darkest colour) over just the tips of the nails. (This layer doesn’t really need to be that neat because you will cover it up with glitter!)

One layer of top coat to smooth out nails and blend colours a bit.

Add some bling. It is up to you whether you want to do it or not. tbh im not a big fan of the way i decorated these nails. …… . but i was sick and drugged. so i wasn’t in top form OK.
(oh and all i use the dotting tool for is to pick the bling up/position it on my nails)

Paint a little bit of glitter over just the ends of the nails.

LOL NOW ITS TIME TO CLEAN UP THE MESS YOU MADE.
Use a cotton tip dipped in remover and clean up the bulk of the edges. You don’t need to get right into the corners or anything though, that will clean itself up next time you wash your hair.
AND THATS IT FOLKS. That is how i do my gradients.
I’ll post a proper photo of these nails when i get a chance. If you have any questions just ask, i’ve never done a tutorial before so i don’t really know if i’ve explained things properly… there are MUCH easier methods out there for doing gradients. This is just what works for me ┐(´~`)┌
